What DevOps roles look like in India
DevOps engineer job descriptions in India still vary widely. Product companies and MNC R&D centres usually expect ownership of CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, containers, and observability. IT services roles may still mean “build pipelines and run Jenkins,” with less design ownership. On FzlOps we prioritise individual-contributor roles where you ship platform work — not ticket-only support desks.
Typical mid-level DevOps openings in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune ask for Linux fluency, one major cloud (AWS is still the most common), Docker, Kubernetes or ECS, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation), and a CI system such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. Senior roles add platform design, cost control, security baselines, and mentoring.
Skills hiring managers screen for
- Cloud: AWS (most listings), Azure, or GCP — plus IAM, networking, and cost awareness
- Containers & orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and increasingly GitOps (Argo CD / Flux)
- IaC: Terraform is the default; some shops still use Ansible or Pulumi
- CI/CD: pipeline design, artifact promotion, and rollback strategy — not just YAML templates
- Observability: metrics, logs, traces (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, or New Relic)
- Scripting: Bash plus Python or Go for automation
How we pick DevOps listings
We include a role when the apply URL is live, the employer looks legitimate, and the work is clearly DevOps, platform, cloud, or infrastructure-focused. We reject generic “IT support,” stale aggregator search pages, and listings that only exist as recruiter spam. Roles are re-checked on a regular cadence — see our verification process.
